About Us

The Auckland Tokelau Society Incorporated represents a small but deeply rooted Pacific community
whose journey in Aotearoa New Zealand began over 60 years ago. Since the 1960s,
Tokelauan families have settled in Auckland seeking opportunity, stability, and education β€”
while carrying with them the spirit of fakaalofa (love and respect), inati (sharing), and a deep
sense of language, culture, and faith.
Today, over 2,400 Tokelauans live in Auckland, making it the second-largest Tokelauan
population in New Zealand.

What We Do

The Auckland Tokelau Society Incorporated supports the wellbeing, identity, and cultural strength of the Tokelauan community in Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa New Zealand. Our work is grounded in Tokelauan values and driven by the needs of our people.

Key Areas of Our Work:

Cultural Preservation
We promote Gagana Tokelau (language), traditional knowledge, and intergenerational learning through community events, workshops, and cultural programmes.

Community Support
We offer social support and advocacy for Tokelauan families.

Youth and Leadership Development
We work along side our Tokelauan youth, encouraging confidence, identity, and leadership for the future.

Health and Wellbeing
We help run and are currently looking at opportunities for our families to obtain better health services and support pathways that reflect our unique cultural needs and challenges.

Future Planning – Lumanaki Project
We are actively working to establish a dedicated Tokelau Community Centre in Auckland β€” a hub for language revitalisation, cultural events, social services, and entrepreneurship.

Our Vision is to empower the Tokelauan Community to thrive across generations β€” Spiritually, Socially, and Culturally.
